Christian Beliefs vs. Atheist Beliefs

For me, this is the reason I’m an atheist. How can you pick one religion, when there is clearly so many different solutions to the issue? For some people, that means being agnostic, for me, its atheism.

  1. Your post is unique and somewhat refreshing, even for a Christian.

There is a story in the Tanakh where a bunch of people got together to challenge their gods. The test was simple: for the god to start a fire in some firewood.

I forget the names of the gods, but their prophets prayed all day for those gods to start a fire but nothing happened.

Then it was Elijah’s turn. He poured water all over the firewood, just to make it extra “difficult” for his God, the God of Abraham. with one small request, that God turned the wet firewood into a roaring bonfire.

This is the essential question: is the god dead or alive?

That same God, the God of Abraham is alive in my heart, thanks to His son Jesus, and no man can take this away from me! I’m so happy!

  2. Yeah there is a lot of heavy-handed atheism stuff out there, so it is nice to find something that just presents unbiased facts and leaves you to draw your own conclusions.

  3. wow, you’re entirely a confused athiest that’s trying to be all cool and bravado like in his athiest clothing, but is really an agnostic deep down. Good thing you have objective Christian friends to help you strip down to what’s really going on :D
And just quickly, simply because there are a variety of different options doesn’t necessarily mean that none of them are true. I believe in science there are a variety of competing theories that all try to explain similar things, and you don’t believe that they’re all nuts do you? If not.. then you’re not only an agnostic in athiest clothing, but you’re an arts student deep DEEP down

  4. For anyone else reading this, Joey is not as cool as me.

  5. No one is as call as you Eric, you’re my boy!

PS. where are we at on the rotation for our costumes at the Star Trek Convention this year…

It’s coming up again, and I forget if we’re doing Romulan or Ferengi this year. I know we did Klingon last year, but I just forget what comes up next in the rotation… let me know, or we’ll both show up in different costumes, and look really stupid together.

  6. huh… I wrote call instead of cool. Me no good at english

  7. I’m incredibly disappointed Matthew

  8. no one’s certainly as CALL as eric! =]

coming from a very strict roman catholic background, i can only empathize with your thoughts. the past year has been very much like a test of my faith; and when you’re praying to a higher entity for something so grand, that it’s almost a guarantee that it’s a lost cause, you start wondering why you never sought providence from the other “Gods”. in losing, you start wondering if your own God even exist…

…despite all that, you find yourself rooted in that which you believe in the most.

this reminds me of the last words from “The Great Gatsby”; “…so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”

  9. It’s hard to change the premise upon which you base alot of your life.

For me it was easier, my parents weren’t very religious and I questioned alot of it from the outset. Basically I started out agnostic and moved to atheist, and that’s a pretty short trip.
